Home to Tempranillo, King of Grapes
Ribera del Duero was bestowed the designation of Denomination of Origin in 1982. The Regulatory Council endorses the authenticity and quality of the protected wines with its seal and a numbered back label.
Ribera del Duero is home to the most exclusive red wines in Spain coveted by collectors the world over. The locals call Tempranillo “Tinto Fino” because its different from other regions in Spain. Lower yields, the vines struggle in extreme temperature diurnal shifts, upwards of 40 degrees per day and high altitudes (+2,360 to 3,608 ft). Over a third of the vines are +45 years old, with an additional 10% of vines 80+ years old. The result, Tempranillo grapes are smaller berries with thicker skins, darker color and acidity resulting in more complex wines.
